Jeeva – Harris Jeyaraj combo

There are quite a few songs of Harris Jeyaraj that feature in my all-time favourite songs list. I started off writing a post on that but, as I started writing, I realized that most of them were the ones that HJ had composed for Jeeva. So, here’s a post on my 5 favourite songs produced by HJ-Jeeva combo. It’s sad that this combination is never going to happen again. 😦

Poove Vaai Paesum – 12B

These kind of slow, a little bit sad songs generally don’t appeal to me much. But, this is one song I surprisingly liked in the first hearing itself. What is it that I like in the song? The opening music, Mahalaxmi’s voice, the male singer’s voice (who is the singer? I always thought it was Kay Kay but I find many sites saying it’s Harish Raghavendra & I guess it’s correct after listening to the song quite a few times now), the music of the two lines and the humming sung by Harish Ragahavendra ( I love the music of those lines). ‘En mounam ennum poottai udaikiraai enna naan solvaen’ – I don’t know why but I like this line. On the whole, simple music and the song matches the mood of the situation in the movie.

What I don’t like in this song? The music of the last line or rather the last word, ‘manraaduvaen(?)’. I have always felt the music of the last line spoils the beauty of the whole song. 😦

Muttham Muttham – 12B

I can hear the music from the first 11 seconds to 30 seconds of this song again and again. The first 2 minutes of the song with the beat at the end of the first few lines sung by Mahalaxmi forms the best part of the song. Kay Kay and Mahalaxmi would have sung the song soooo nicely! They are the stars of this song. Incidentally, Kay Kay happens to be one of my favourite singers.

Oru Punnagai Poove – 12B

Again, the opening lines! The way Kay Kay sings ‘oru punnagai poove siru pookaLin theeve’ and then hums before the song starts with beats and humming by chorus is what makes you not press the Stop button or change the song. πŸ™‚ The music of the first two lines of the charanams of the song is the next favourite part of mine. I love the music of the lines, ‘nee maara sonnadhum naangu seasonum maara vaendumaa? Love paNNu’.

BGM for the scenes featuring Simran Shaam – 12B

I have watched the part of the movie featuring Simran and Shaam many times for the BGM alone. It is the music that comes in the 2-minute song ‘Oru Paarvai’ from the same movie.

Ennai Pandhaada – Ullam Ketkume

There have been times when I have listened to this song continuously for 2-3 hours! Right from the very first time the song was shown in the trailer of the movie, I liked it so much that I used to wait for the trailer eagerly just to listen to this song! I remember listening only to the parts sung by Madhumita first. Then when I heard the parts sung by Srinivas, I went completely crazy about it!

In all the songs I have mentioned till now, including this one, the opening music/humming is awesome. Many words in this song are not sung plainly as is usually the case with many songs of HJ. Just listen to the way Srinivas sings the words ‘Ennai’, ‘Osai’! More than Madhumita, I would say Srinivas is the star of the song. πŸ™‚ After the first couple of lines the humming he does is too good! The flute interlude at 1.18 minutes of the song is a nice one. Madhumita ends the line ‘netri muttivida vaarai’ in a lovely way.

There is only one thing that I don’t like in this song and that is the ending! The word ‘Anbae’ should have been sung in a different way. This one has a sad kind of touch to it and I don’t like it. 😦

I somehow didn’t like the songs of Unnale Unnale as much as these. With this, my post comes to an end. What are your favourite HJ – Jeeva combo songs?

These are nice selection. But somehow i’m not not going with ur choices. my fav’s are

    1. vaigasinilave – UnnaleUnnale
    2. jythoneranjava – 12B
    3. mazhai mazhai – Ullamketkume
    4. mudanmudalaga – UU
    5. oh!maname – UK

deep condolenses to jeeva! i liked his cinematography more than his direction. his visuals for any film (even very ordinary films like “bhagam bhag” also) would be stunning. we’ll miss a good cinematographer.

SOme how i fewlt Jeeva was turning out to be a Karan Johar of the south and i didnt want that to happen ….

Hios first movie was good obviously coz of Bagyaraj Screenplay apart from that everything else was bullshit

I can stand his Ennai Pandhada pirnathavalo song !! – but everything else is useless !!

I appreciate his Cinematography – and he should have stuck to it !

anyways he is no more and may his family get the strength to bear his loss !!
