Swades – My fav scenes

Swades is one of my favourite movies in the recent times. I will write a post on the movie, the music and the lyrics later. For now, here are a couple of my favourite deleted scenes from the movie that were later released in the DVD:

How I wish these scenes were not deleted! In the first scene, I love the way Sharukh pretends to be asleep every time Gayatri turns towards him while she is watering the plants. I love the BGM of this scene.

In the second scene, you should see Sharukh asking Kaveri Amma ‘kya?..’ when she says ‘Geeta ne mujhe bataya aaj school mein kya hua’. In the uncut scene when Gayatri hits him with the duster, Sharukh says ‘Maine to sab jawab sahi diya’ :) Lovely scenes!

yeah one of the fantastic movies ever made … i loved Sharukh’s acting only in this movie and a r rahman was top notch ….

quick pointer: Check out the the BGM when they actually discuss as to who will marry Geeta …. you should be able to connect that with a song that came later in Bollywood … ;)

and this is the only hindi movie that choked my throat …. i almost had tears in my eyes and was abt to clap for the acting then !!

Situation: The trains stops at Ajithe and there is a small boy who sells water “pacchis paisey keliye ek glass pani” …. and every single frame after that blows you off !!

    cant stop talking !!

O by the way, Madhavan:Aparna::Shahrukh:Chiroti…:) hope you get the ratio proportion equation! :) I really like Shahrukh in a lot of movies – Dil Se, Swades, Chak De, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, Saathiya, Darr, Veer Zaara, etc etc…I even went to one of his shows and got a basket ball signed by him…:( this was during my college days…:) Waiting for your post o Swades. By the way, I love the sarees she wears in this. I started wearing sarees to work, cotton sarees after watching this….! :)

Subtle yet poignant acting. Soul-stirring sound score. Simple yet sparkling visuals. Swades is a treat for the eye when viewed on a 70mm screen! – Everything about the movie, right from the promos and packaging had this surreal yet classic feel to it.

The best use of lenses and shades gave the movie a rustic yet modern appeal. Another highlight is the use of good hindi, simple yet striking.

My fave shots:- the aerial and side angle shots of the train & stations! – This movie tells out loud, Rural India Rocks too!

I watched Swades the second time recently and it was now that I could appreciate or better say realize various themes, cues towards progress that the Movie conveys.

Being away from home makes this movie resonate well with me and I’d endorse this movie at cinema-at-its-best. The subtlety of acting, silence, messages in this movie is par-excellence. This movie represents the deft thought and action put together to bring a coherent message to the screen.
I’d love to watch more such works in Indian cinema because the commercial movies are devoid of message.

It was a very good movie but with quite a few ‘gaps’ which left a vaccum in the entire story-line. When I watched the deleted scenes it was obvious that these if included, would have made the movie wholesome. Notably, the development of personal relationship between Mohan/Gita, Mohan/Kaveriamma and his interaction with Dadaji and Beevi did inspired him to make his ultimate decision of returing to India, though he felt for the masses at grass-root level. We believe that ‘no man is an island’. These deleted scenes depict developement of these relationships, especially that of Gita who is indeed a very strong & committed person, and would have, undoubtedly filled the gaps in the movie and made it rich -also, in terms as a box office hit! What a shame!
